There are some of the best shows in the world, and invariably go on tour to theaters across the country and abord.

Shaking hands is a polite gesture indicating friendship and acceptance. At one time, however, meeting with a stranger aroused suspicion and fear. To prevent each other from suddenly attacking, strangers joined right hands as a pledge of nonaggression, thus demonstrating that neither party was about to use a weapon. Handshaking is now an activity practiced by both men and women not only to greet one another, but to seal a contract as well.

Sodom 是远古时代的一座城市，位于现在的死海附近。据说该城市为罪恶之深渊。在这座城市里，生长着一种十分高大的苹果树，它结出的果实十分漂亮，非常惹人喜爱。凡是经过这儿的人们都禁不住要采摘一个下来品尝，然而当拿到手里剥去皮之后，令人大失所望、里面是一团像灰土一样的东西，根本无法食用。

从十六世纪开始，bumpkin就已经被用来表示“反应慢、无知的，容易上当的农村人”。意思相近的词还有许多，如hayseed， yokel，rube 和hick等等。形容很笨的城里人的词有city slicker ，greenhorn，tenderfoot 和 dude。其实，这些词的意思都差不多，都是指乡巴佬（a damn fool），和在农村还是在城市的关系不大。

需要指出的是， Bumpkin这个词原来并不表示对一个人居住地的嘲讽。它的用法被认为和荷兰词boomken有关，意思是“小树”（little tree），贬义的用法形容荷兰人身材矮小，相当于“stumpy”。

        New findings suggest that fish might be too smart to be eaten.

        Dr. Sylvia Earle wants you to stop eating fish. It's not because fish are endangered 1, though wild fish stocks 2 in many oceans are very low. It's not because they're bad for you, though fish in many areas are exposed to poisonous substances 3 in the water. It's because they're smart.
        “Fish are sensitive 4, they have personalities 5,” says the marine biologist. For Earle, eating a fish would be like eating a dog or a cat. “I would never eat anyone I know personally 6.”
        There's a lot more to fish than meets the eye: they talk to each other, they like to be touched, and they engage in 7 behavior 8 that can seem very human. They can remember things and learn from experience. Earle and a growing number of animal rights activists 9 see these as strong arguments against eating fish altogether.
        The activists also point out that fish feel pain and fish suffer horribly on their way from the sea to the supermarket. “While it may seem obvious 10 that fish are able to feel pain, like every other animal, some people think of fish as swimming vegetables,” says Dr. Lynne Sneddon. “Really, it's kind of a moral question. Is the enjoyment you get from fishing （or eating fish） more important than the pain of the fish?”
        Fishermen and（fried）fish lovers are skeptical 11. “I've never seen a smart fish,” says Marie Swaringen as she finishes off a plate of fish at a Seattle seafood restaurant. “If they were very smart, they wouldn't get caught.”
